PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER
Design, engineering, and prototyping of a portable, low-cost air condtioner for Totable AC. This simple approach to air cooling was based off a patented proof-of-concept that was brought to us by the inventor. The main objective was to develop a product with a strong focus on affordability, low power consumption, and a lightweight form factor that does not require refrigerant to operate. After several prototypes and iterations, the final design proudly claims the title of the first portable air conditioner under 8 lbs that delivers 30+ degrees of cooling for 3+ hours. This simple yet powerful concept balances the principles of thermal conductivity, heat sink surface area, airflow and static pressure to provide a cool blast of air on a hot summer day.
The main electrical components of this assembly consist of a fan, potentiometer, and battery. The fan draws air through the aluminum manifold which is filled with ice. This heat exchanger approach abosrbs the heat coming in and converts it to ice cold air coming out of the hose.
Early ideation surrounding the frozen insert concept. Cast aluminum inserts can be filled with water and frozen solid (or simply filled with ice) to create the heatsink to absorb the ambient air passing through.
